WINTER WEATHER  – A BLAST FROM THE PAST

One of the worst recorded ice storms to hit Washington County happened in February 1922. The weather was warm for February causing the precipitation to come as rain and thunderstorms.   These lasted a day and a half with freezing and thawing happening throughout the day and nights.  As the temperature turned colder the rain turned to snow.  Tree limbs were falling, telephone lines were down, electricity was off, and train transportation was impossible.  It took days for the damage to be cleaned up and for life to resume.
